8R12's Hunger Hot-Spot Forum

8R12 students worked in groups to inquire into a country where people are experiencing hunger problems.  They represented their country at the 'Hunger Hot-Spot Forum' where 'delegates' from first-world countries decided how they would each share out their $7,500,000 worth of food aid.

As Mr Hagler notes, "This sort of a task allows the students to explore their world and the many often subtle factors which influence people's ability to live in it." He points out how the task involves students in real-world issues that they will have to tackle when they are adults. "There's a chance that some of these students will do something just like this when they are adults -- practice now!"

Rugby League Ruru VS Makomako

Thursday 22nd May 

Today there was a very tight rugby league game at AJHS, Ruru against Makomako, it was a very close game but Makomako walked out with the win 12-8. Ruru put up a fight for Makomako "good game Ruru" politely said Mr Tong. Mr Hagler was willing enough to be the referee and he did a great job. The first try of the game was scored by Alex in Ruru has he dodged past 2 Makomako players and scored the try. Ruru then missed the conversion making it 4-0 to Ruru. Makomako kept tight on their defence only letting in one more try scored by Luca. After Ruru scored their try, Makomako was eager to get one too, so they passed it to there best player ‘Cody’ who ran straight through Ruru’s Defence and scored a try. After this Dylan got the ball, found a gap and sprinted to score a beautiful try making the score 12-8 to Makomako. Ruru really wanted to get a try so they could take the victory but as the ending whistle blew you could see the disappointed faces on the Ruru team. The best players in both teams were Cody in MakoMako and Alex in Ruru.

Alison Liu's Speech

Today 8R12 students pretended they were Alison Liu from The Great Supermarket Debate and recorded themselves delivering the speech at the town meeting.
